As the world marks 30 years since the tragic death of John Lennon, founder of the Beatles and peace fighter, Bulgaria commemorates him with a special monument.

A bas-relief, representing a portrait of John Lennon, will be opened Wednesday at the former "The Lennon Wall", situated at the corner of Patriarch Evtimii and Graf Ignatiev streets in downtown Sofia.

The wall was painted with graffiti by Bulgarian high school students during the Communist Era as a sign of a protest against the regime. John Lennon and the Beatles were extremely influential for Bulgarian dissidents in that period.
