Sofia Airport, the largest of Bulgaria's four international airports, expects to end 2010 with a net profit of BGN 14 M, according to its Operations Director Nikolay Kabakchiev.

The number of passengers that the airport served in 2010 is expected to be 6% larger than in 2009, Kabakchiev told BTA in an interview.

He has pointed out that in November 2010, Sofia Airport introduced its first four online check-in terminals.

The airport will move to make all payments for parking services at both Terminal 2, which is the newer and larger terminal, and Terminal 1.

Kabachiev also said the airport management has obeyed all legal regulations with respect to the taxi services, and that it has placed information signs showing the prices of the cab companies as well as the average price a taxi ride from the airport to the downtown should cost.

This is done in an effort to crack down on the relatively numerous cases of ripoffs of foreigners by drivers belonging to marginal taxi firms. For example, a normal ride from the airport to the downtown should not cost more than BGN 12, which the "ripoff cabs" would often charge over BGN 100.

"If the amendments in the Car Transport Act become a fact, and they introduce a price cap on taxi services, this problem will be resolved; the rest is in the hands of the police," Kabakchiev said.
