The combined fortune of the 100 richest people in Bulgaria amounts to BGN 11.7 B, according to a survey of the financial newspaper "Pari."

This is approximately 17% of Bulgaria's GDP for 2009, the data indicates.

The entire ranking of the 100 richest Bulgarians is to be released next week but Saturday's edition of the Trud Daily has provided a preliminary excerpt provided to it by the Pari Daily.

The paper focuses on the fact that Vasil Zlatev, the 73-year-old former mayor of the town of Pravetz northeast of Sofia, is among the five richest Bulgarians.

Vasil Zlatev is the father of another Bulgarian tycoon, Valentin Zlatev, who is the head of Lukoil Bulgaria. At present, Vasil Zlatev is head of the Board of Directors of Agrohold Holding, which owns companies in various economic sectors.

The Trud Daily has also vowed to reveal the names of Bulgarians who are widely believed to be rich but don't fall within the top 100 spots.
