An unexploded shell from the Second World War has been unearthed Tuesday during repair work in the central square of the major Bulgarian city of Ruse on the river Danube.

The bomb was discovered right next to the big fountain in the center of the Ruse square.

It was lying some 4 feet below the ground. The shell is one foot (30 cm) in length and carries a significant amount of explosives.

It has been carried away for inspection and the site has been closed on grounds of safety.

Further inspections are underway for other dangerous objects in the area, as well as additional remains from the war.
