In times of economic crisis, the political formations from the European people's Party (EPP) must not waste resources in conflicts among each other, the EPP Chair Wilfrid Martens says.

The statement comes from a letter sent by Martens to the leaders of Bulgaria's right-wing Blue Coalition, Ivan Kostov (Democrats for Strong Bulgaria, DSB), and Martin Dimitrov (Union of Democratic Forces, UDF).

The letter is response to a written request by Kostov and Dimitrov, asking EPP to scorn the ruling, center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party over statements of its leader and Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, deemed an exculpation of the Communist regime in Bulgaria and of Communist dictator, Todor Zhivkov.

The official reply points out Martens has asked Borisov for explanations and the latter told him his words were taken out of contest, confirming GERB's full adherence and pledge for the center-right values of EPP.

Dimitrov commented Tuesday interests, most likely, prevailed over the EPP values regarding the above matter, adding the Blue Coalition was not satisfied with the answer.

"We are asking the following question – if tomorrow someone says Hitler was a good ruler because he built highways, would EPP send the same letter as they did to us? Are they going to close their eyes again?," the right-wing leader stated.
