Sofia-Burgas Train in Bulgaria Crashes into Car, 4 Hurt

The Bulgarian Sofia-Burgas train crashed into an illegaly maneuvering car at a railroad crossing Sunday afternoon in an accident that left 3 injured but no one killed.

The car was illegally crossing the railway even though it had been given the signal to stop and thus caused the accident.

The accident happened near Sliven, on a busy rail-line that joins the capital Sofia with Burgas, Bulgaria's fourth-largest city, located at the Black Sea.

Four people were traveling in the car, with three of them being transported to hospital. One of them is said to be in a severe condition, the rest have suffered superficial wounds. The four were a family traveling together.

No injuries were reported among train staff and passengers.

The locomotive of the train suffered damages, but after a thorough inspection it was made clear that the train is capable of continuing.

The train was withheld at the place of the incident until police investigations were finalized, and later it on continued to its destination.

The management of Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) announced that they were ready to arrange alternative transportation. They also called drivers to observe safety rules when crossing railroads.
