A Bulgarian immigrant in the United States has gained USD 3,5 M from traffic of antiques, the Bulgarian daily "24 Chassa" (24 Hours) reported.

The Bulgarian used an Internet website for conducting the trade and bought real estate with the money he gained.

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated on the case, said the prosecutor from the Bulgarian Supreme Cassations Prosecutor's Office, Nikolay Solarov. He added that the trafficker will be charged by the Prosecutor's Office.

Solarov also said that there were 93 sentences for trafficking of antiques this year, which was a good indicator. In his words, there were between 140 and 200 cases for traffic of antiques per year.

It was announced at a forum for tackling crimes against the cultural heritage that Bulgaria was the country with the largest traffic of antiques from Europe to the United States. The revenues from the illegal trade commensurates with the domestic drug market.
