CNN International anchor Ralitsa Vassileva has described the documentary she made for CNN on the 20th anniversary since the fall of communism in Bulgaria as her “most rewarding” experience.

In an interview for the Bulgaria-US Survey of Novinite.com (Sofia News Agency), one of the top CNN anchors emphasized her understanding of the generation change in Bulgaria 20 years after the end of the communist regime.

“It gave me an opportunity to revisit the story that made me a journalist. It was fascinating to meet with major players in that revolutionary event and see where they stand today. What struck me the most though was talking to those who have no memory of what happened 20 years ago. The difference between Bulgaria’s young generation and mine represents the change. Bulgaria’s young have the freedom of choice to study, work and travel which my generation did not have,“ Vassileva said.

“My visit last December impacted me so much I wrote a Blog about it (available at http://inthefield.blogs.cnn.com/tag/ralitsa-vassileva/ ),” she pointed out.

She also told Novinite.com she felt as though in a way she never stopped living in Bulgaria.
