Prince Charles has hinted that his wife Camilla might become Queen when he takes the throne, the BBC reports.

In an interview for the US channel NBC, Prince Charles was asked whether the Duchess of Cornwall could ever become Queen Consort.

"We'll see won't we? That could be," he said.

Ever since the couple's wedding five years ago, Clarence House was saying that "nothing had changed" and that Camilla would become Princess Consort, as was stated then.

However, the issue is connected to the title, which the Duchess would take when the prince becomes king, not her role.

At the time of their marriage, it was announced that Camilla would assume the Princess Consort title when Charles became King, the BBC reports.

According to several polls, there is a lack of support for the Duchess becoming Queen Camilla.

In the NBC interview, Prince Charles gave the answer, which was suspected by the people, that he wanted Camilla to be crown Queen Consort.

He also commented on his role in public life.

"The trouble is, there isn't a job description so you have to rather make it up as you go along, which doesn't always appeal to everybody else. You pick it up as you go along, from a very young age, and it gradually dawns on you what it's actually all about," Charles said, as cited by the BBC.

The prince has also added that he preferred not to think about becoming King because it would come as a result of his mother's death.

"If it comes, then you'll have to deal with it," he said.
