Bulgaria to Appoint New Ambassador in Berlin

Vladimir Kisyov, former Sofia Municipal Council chairman and chief negotiator in accession talks with the European Union, is to be sent as the new Bulgarian Ambassador in Germany.

Ivo Petrov, the current Bulgarian Ambassador in Berlin, will be reportedly moved to another diplomatic mission.

Kisyov, who also was consecutively a Deputy Industry and Deputy Foreign Minister in former Bulgarian PM Ivan Kostov's rightist government (1997-2001), was announced as the new Ambassador in Berlin by Bulgaria's current PM Boyko Borisov Monday.

Borisov himself pointed out that he makes use of the Bulgarian rightists' best people, stating that, as a result, Ivan Kostov's new party, Democrats for Strong Bulgaria, can no longer compete with him.

Kisyov is the second ex-member of Kostov's government to be named by Borisov as Ambassador after Marin Raykov, who represents Bulgaria in France.

The Bulgarian rightist Blue Coalition, headed by Kostov, has recently been increasingly critical towards Borisov centrist GERB government, however, they are still not in opposition.
