The Turkish Ambassador to Sofia, Mehmed Gyudjuk, is leaving Bulgaria with the country's highest order "Stara Planina."

The order was bestowed Monday by Bulgarian President, Georgi Parvanov, who said bilateral relations have improved significantly during Gyudjuk's term.

The President further pointed out trade between the two countries went up 4 times since he first visited Turkey and voiced hope for increased reciprocal investments.

"The signed memorandum for cooperation in the energy sector with Turkey shows your country is of great importance to us," Parvanov told the Ambassador.

Gyudjuk expressed gratitude for the honor, pointing out many key events with international effects happened in Bulgaria and the region during his term. He praised Bulgaria as a partner in the Black Sea and Southeastern Europe regions, and in NATO and the support for Turkey's effort to become an EU member.
