The Black Sea city of Burgas has been announced "Bulgaria's Best City to Live in."

The official ceremony was held Monday in the National History Museum in downtown Sofia where the Minister of Regional Development, Rosen Plevneliev, bestowed the award.

The ranking is put together for the fourth year in a row by Darik Radio and the Bulgarian daily 24 Chasa (24 Hours).

In the ranking of 27 cities and towns in Bulgaria, each one was evaluated using 25 criteria.

Burgas received the maximum number of points in the areas of: investment in infrastructure projects, shop hours, number of restaurants with varying cuisine, nice places to drink coffee in the center, the number of non-stop pharmacies, day care centers, employment rate, and foreign investments, among others but nevertheless pollution and crime remain problematic for the city.

Varna and Blagoevgrad received the special "Bulgaria's Best City to Live in" title through the online vote.

For the first time, the ranking this year includes awards for "Business City"(Sofia), "Green City" (Smolyan) and "Beautiful City" (Veliko Tarnovo).

Yambol, Silistra and Pernik are at the three bottom places of the ranking.

In the four years of the ranking, Varna has won the title twice times – in 2007 and 2008. In 2009, it was the capital Sofia which received the maximum number of points.
