Those attacking me attack statehood in Bulgaria, claimed Andrey Ivanov, chair of the Sofia Municipal Council and leader of the Sofia organization of ruling center-right GERB party.

End of October notorious Order, Lawfulness and Justice (RZS) party piled an allegation campaign against Ivanov parallel to the one it staged against Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov, in which the GERB functionary was accused of illegally acquiring a number of real estate properties.

Speaking in an evening interview for Bulgarian Nova TV, Andrey Ivanov denied all such allegations, in particular having excessive amounts of properties and dealing with murky figures.

"Apparently both the GERB party and I are standing in the way of someone. I've been chairing the Sofia Municipal Council for three years and up to now no accusations of corruption have been levied," complained Ivanov.

He further stated that the trust of the party leadership, in particular that of party chairman and Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov, is firm and intact.

Ivanov vowed to remain the head of the Sofia GERB structure and to stage a staunch fight for the municipal elections scheduled for the fall of 2011.
