More than half of all Bulgarians (56%) are reluctant to change their place of residence inside the country while 59% would not emigrate even for a 50% pay raise.

The data comes from a poll of the research company Synovate, conducted in September and October in Bulgaria, Russia, the Ukraine and Serbia.

However, 40% of those between the age of 15 and 69 said they would move to another place inside the country for a 100% pay raise.

Serbians show similar attitude, while in Russia 80% responded they would not emigrate and 77% are reluctant to change their residence inside the Federation.

The Managing Director of Synovate Bulgaria, Stoyan Mihaylov, explains these trends with historical events – Serbians and Bulgarians already lived through an emigration wave; have personal experiences and friends and relatives abroad ,while in Russia, especially in more remote areas, people are far from the idea of mobility. Responses in Moscow have been, however, very different.

A significant number of Bulgarians also say they would move to a foreign country if their employer provides work for the other family members.

Another, though lesser reason to emigrate, noted by Bulgarian respondents is a benefits package with medical insurance, free food, cell phone and others.

Career opportunities and rent paid by the employers have less importance as reasons to relocate, according to the poll's results.
