Turkish Driver Hits, Kills Bulgarian Border Policeman

An employee of the Bulgarian Border Police has been hit by a car with Turkish registration and has died on the spot.

The accident happened at 8:30 pm Monday evening at the "Capitan Andreevo" cross border checkpoint between Bulgaria and Turkey.

Angel Andreev, 42, was hit by an Opel Astra, driven by a Turkish national.

An ambulance has been dispatched immediately, but doctors arrived at the scene only to confirm Andreev has died.

The driver is held behind bars for 24 hours before facing a judge. The case is under investigation.

Andreev is from the border town of Svilengrad and has two children.
