Bulgaria's Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, confirmed information about an assassination plot against Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, published in the daily "24 Chassa" (24 Hours).

Tsvetanov told reporters Monday that he "could not deny the above information," vowing all necessary measures would be swiftly undertaken.

According to the publication, about 10 days ago, Bulgarian intelligence have intercepted phone calls and meetings of some key personalities and discovered the latest plan to murder Borisov for the price of EUR 400 000.

"In the last few years, the National Security Services provide effective security measures for people who are under threats, and up them for any politician. Any information from special services is reason for concern, but, in this case, I don't deem the publication a leak of classified information," Tsvetanov said, reminding Borisov has been under murder threats since the time he worked as Chief Secretary of the Interior.

The Minister declined commenting on the intentions of controversial businessman and alleged ringleader, Aleksei Petrov, to run for president next year.
