The National Revenue Agency (NRA) launched an audit of the Chair of Sofia Municipal Council from the ruling GERB party, Andrey Ivanov.

NRA inspectors will probe the assets and the revenues of Ivanov and the members of his family.

The standard audit takes a look at revenues in the last five years; at all expenses of the household, and includes detailed appraisals of all properties and assets.

The average deadline for the audit to be carried out is 3 months. The results can be made public only of the investigated individual gives a written agreement.

After Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, Ivanov became the second high-ranking person from the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party to be audited following attacks from the conservative Order, Law and Justice (RZS) party.

Last week RZS alarmed the Parliamentary Anti-corruption Committee of the finances and properties of the Head of the Municipal Council, including signals for tax evasion, money laundering, conflict of interests, and improper financial ties with Tsvetanov.

Ivanov defined the above as slander and lies. He declared he only had 15 properties, not 60 as RZS say, and that details from his career history, announced by the Conservatives are wrong, vowing to resign, if the accusations are proven true.
