The Lyulin highway in Southwestern Bulgaria is to open for a trial period at the end of 2010, according to Bulgarian Minister on Regional Development, Rosen Plevneliev.

Plevneliev clarified that the trial is only going to take place, provided that all traffic safety measures are taken care of.

The Bulgarian Minister on Regional Development is on a routine monthly visit to Lyulin highway construction sites Tuesday together with Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

The building of the highway is expected to finish on December 18, 2010. Up to now, the construction of a part of the highway, a bridge near the village of Golyamo Buchino, is delayed with 30 days. Rosen Plevneliev stated that the bridge is possibly going to be finished by the end of 2010.

The southern arc of the junction "Daskalovo" of Lyulin Highway was opened in the beginning of October. Several days later, citizens alarmed about the cracks in the asphalt of the junction. The cracks were reported not dangerous and technology related by the Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency.

In the beginning of September, Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov declared that the government plans to build three highways by the end of its first term. The 19-km Lyulin highway is the one closest to completion.
