Indonesia’s most dangerous volcano Mount Merapi erupted again on Monday, spewing ash and smoke, and causing panic among locals officials have announced.

Monday’s eruption was not as big as last week’s, which killed 36 people. However, officials have announced that another eruption is possible this week.

Last week, officials raised a third-degree alert and warned villagers in a radius of 10 km to move to safer ground. However, some people have returned later to look after their crops and livestock.

On Monday, Mount Merapi spewed fumes and hot ash and created a sense of panic in the people, who were forced to evacuate again.

Merapi is one of the most active and dangerous volcanoes in Indonesia and has produced more lava flows than any other volcano in the world. It has been active for 10,000 years and has registered eruptions on average every four years.
