The Bulgarian capital Sofia currently has about 350 unsafe and dangerous buildings, according to the city's Chief Architect, Petar Dikov.

Dikov says the City Hall has a list of those buildings, and it was created in the aftermath of the 2006 tragedy in downtown Sofia when two young women were killed after a building collapsed on top of their car stuck in a traffic jam.

The Chief Architect stated three main issues with unsafe buildings – shortage of funding to demolish them; tenants refusing to vacate the premises; private ownership or unknown owners, all interfering with the City Hall's attempts to deal with the problem.
