Funds in the amount of EUR 250 M would be transferred from the EU operational program "Transport" for the construction of the subway in Bulgaria's capital Sofia.

The information was reported Tuesday by the Bulgarian Minister of EU Funds, Tomislav Donchev, after a meeting of the European Commission's Coordination Council for the EU Funds Management.

EUR 90 M would be transferred from the railroad infrastructure and road construction program, most notably from the program for rehabilitation and modernization of the Sofia-Svilengrad rail line - from Sofia to the Turkish border.

Donchev sad the transfer does not mean this would be the fixed long-term funding and other relocations of resources could be expected, noting the fast rate of the building of the Sofia metro.

The Council has coordinated the 2011 use of funds under all 7 EU operational programs.

Deputy Transportation Minister, Ivaylo Moskovski, further explained about EUR 120 M would be used for the purchase of new metro trains.
