Bulgaria's Exports for Slovenia Down by 65% in 2009

Bulgarian exports of products and services to Slovenia declined by the staggering 65% in 2009, according to the Bulgarian-Slovenian Chamber of Commerce.

Thus, while in 2008, Bulgaria's exports to Slovenia was EUR 137 M, in 2009, it was only EUR 48 M. It peaked in 2007, when it was EUR 187 M.

Bulgaria's imports from Slovenia was EUR 124 M in 2009, a decline by 31% compared with 2008.

Slovenia imports from Bulgaria various products such as machine oils, machine parts, water heaters, bread, pipes, bowling pieces. The Bulgarian exports of equipment parts and bread to Slovenia registered a substantial growth in 2009.

The greatest share of Slovenian exports to Bulgaria are pharmaceuticals – worth EUR 30 M in 2009.

"At present the Slovenian institutions are processing the data for the trade with Bulgaria for the first six months of 2010, and there are indications of improvement. We aim to act as a business consultant for improving the economic ties between the two countries and the business climate in Bulgaria," said Vojko Odlazek, Chair of the Board of the Bulgarian-Slovenian Chamber of Commerce.

About 30 Slovenian and 22 Bulgarian firms are members of the Chamber, including the leading Slovenian companies Mercator and Gorenje.
