All main political groups in the European Parliament joined together Wednesday in accusing France and Germany of imposing to all other EU Member States their views on strong fiscal discipline.

Affluent representatives from the Liberals, the Conservatives, the Socialists and the Greens condemned French President, Nicolas Sarkozy's and German Chancelor Angela Merkel's putting forth amendments of the Lisbon Treaty in order to get EU member states to avoid excessive budget deficits.

The two met Monday in the French resort of Deauville, ahead of the tripartite France-Germany-Russia summit together with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

"This is a retreat and a French-German dictatorship," Othmar Karas, Austrian MEP and Coordinator for the group of the European People's Party (EPP) on economic crisis policy said, accusing Paris and Berlin of emptying the Stability Pact from its essence and declaring failure of the EU to learn from the euro crisis.

Both Sarkozy's and Merkel's parties are EPP members.
