Bulgaria's Parliamentary Anti-corruption Committee will appeal the ruling of the Supreme Administrative Court which exonerated Ahmed Dogan, leader of the opposition ethnic Turkish party, from conflict of interests.

The information was reported Monday for the Bulgarian daily "Dnevnik" by the Committee's Chair, Valentin Nikolov, on the heels of the announcement the magistrates found no conflict of interests in the case against the leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) party, who received huge consulting fees on hydro energy projects while his party was in power.

Nikolov, who is a Member of the Parliament from the far-right, nationalist Ataka party, said the ruling is alarming and speaks volumes about the state of the Bulgarian judicial system, but added he would refrain from commenting further because the case was far from over. He did, however, voice disappointment from the Court's decision saying there was enough evidence against the DPS leader and the ruling tells Bulgarians it is normal for a politician to be paid about EUR 1 M for services he never provided.

The Committee's Chair further pointed out that the fact one of the three judges believes Dogan is guilty is solid grounds for appeal.

Meanwhile, the DPS spokesperson, Kamen Kostadinov, declared he was satisfied by the news.

"Plenty of non-sense has been said in the last six months. I am sick and tired of explaining there is no connection between the "Tsankov Kamak" project and Dogan's fee while most media were pretending to be deaf. If someone wishes to insinuate something to the public, he is free to do so – Bulgaria is a free country. At the end, however, it is the Court that rules based on laws, not on what is in the case's file," Kostadinov is quoted saying.
