The Mayor of Bulgaria's southern city of Yambol, Georgi Slavov, went on trial Monday on charges of abuse of power related to a public procurement procedure.

The public tender was for the construction of sewage and plumbing in the city and, allegedly, deprived the municipality of over BGN 2 M.

The Monday trial, which was already postponed twice, unlike the previous sessions, did not attract much public and media attention, Darik radio reports.

Slavov added another lawyer to his defense team, upping it to three attorneys while the Court fined one of them for delaying the case in September over the latter's failure to appear without providing proof of prior commitments.

The Monday session dragged on with insignificant witness testimony and endless questions from the defense team for the experts who prepared the construction and accounting reports, Darik radio informs.

Slavov told the media he wanted the trial to end as soon as possible and reiterated his innocence.
