An owner of an illegally built hotel in Bulgaria's southern Black Sea city of Burgas has voluntarily demolished it with his own equipment.

This curious fact was released Tuesday by the National Construction Control Directorate at the Bulgarian Ministry of Regional Development.

The rough construction works for the five-story buildings had already been finished. The Directorate had nevertheless issued an order to remove it, for it was not allowed to be built in the first place.

The owner voluntarily removed the building, according to the Directorate's information.

Bulgaria has for some years now been having problems with illicit issuing of building permits and rampant overconstruction, especially at attractive tourist sites.
