Bosnia Votes, Disunited as Ever

Important general elections kicked off in Bosnia and Herzegovina Sunday morning, set to determine the composition of a number of bodies in the Balkan country.

Bosnian citizens have to elect the State House of Representatives, the parliamentary body of the whole country, as well as two more legislative bodies - that of the Muslim-Croat federation and that of Republika Srpska. The three communities have also to choose the three representatives of the three-member presiding body of Bosnia and Herzegovina - one Muslim Bosniak, one Croat and one Serb.

Around 3.1 M voters are registered for the elections.

Among other things and worries about Bosnia's EU future, it is feared that Republika Srpska might want independence, while Bosian Croats might press for a separate entity within the already-disjointed Bosnian state.

One of the slogans most strongly resounding during the campaign was "Let's Fight Hopelessness!"
