The use of same criteria to assess the work of former and current ministers is the strongest proof for the consistent and fair policies of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party, Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, says.

The PM spoke during the Friday "Parliamentary control," addressing a question from the Member of the Parliament from the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), Korneliya Ninova, and pointing out the above said policy is the prime difference between the current cabinet and their predecessors.

Borisov explained holding former functionaries accountable is the only just way to act, adding there are 26 legal proceedings against high-ranking individuals, including a PM, former ministers, deputy ministers, and agencies' heads, among others.

"What are you doing Mr. Premier – instating order in the country or ruining political opponents, but not through the rules of a fair political game, rather the rules of political intrigue? You recently said that the biggest punishment for a politician is not an effective verdict, but to be charged and to face the judge, because this would ruin his or her public image. With these words you actually declared evidence and verdicts do not matter, what matters is the defamation of people who dare to disagree with you," Ninova said in plenary hall.

The BSP MP further accused Borisov of using double standards for the opposition and for his own, adding it was admirable he had sanctioned GERB members exposed in having committed conflict of interest, but scorned him for not referring them to the prosecutor as he has done with people from the opposition.
