The Bulgarian capital Sofia hosts the 96th Conference of the heads of statistical offices of the European Union Member States.

The conference started Wednesday with a preliminary working session and will conclude on October 1. The forum is held in the State residency "Boyana" in Sofia's suburbs.

The session started with a greeting from the Head of the Bulgarian National Statistics Institute, NSI, Mariana Kotseva. The forum was opened by the Director General of Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU, Walter Radermacher, former President of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, who wished success and praised the organizers and the hosts.

The first session included a meeting of the working group for Measuring Progress, Wellbeing and Stable Development."

The official opening of the conference is taking place Thursday, September 30 in "Boyana" and will be attended by Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov.

The discussions will revolve around priorities for the next five years and the trends in the development of the European statistics system until 2020.

The 6th meeting of the Committee of the European Statistical System (CESS) - a partnership between the Community statistical authority, which is the Commission (Eurostat), and the national statistical institutes (NSIs) is scheduled for October 1 along with a meeting of the joint EU-Switzerland Committee.
