Bulgarian agriculture minister's dislike for spinach has funnily led the public to believe wrongly that food in Bulgarian kindergartens is bad, according to Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova.

Several Bulgarian dailies circulated last week a picture of Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov frowning as he tries spinach soup at a nursery school in Sofia that he visited together with Fandakova.

The nasty expression on Naydenov's face led the press to conclude that the food given to the kids is of bad quality.

On Wednesday, however, Mayor Fandakova sought to refute these conclusions by claiming that the food is excellent but the frowning resulted from Naydenov's personal food dislikes.

"The problem was not the the food was bad but that Minister Naydenov doesn't like spinach. That is precisely why he made this facial expression that was featured in the papers. The food in kindergartens is perfected," the Mayor claims as cited by the Trud Daily.
