Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov has had a number of meetings at the UN with his counterparts from non-Western countries in search of new economic opportunities.

Mladenov has been in New York for the 65th regular session of the UN General Assembly since last week, meeting with the Foreign Ministers of Iraq, Israel, Syria, Kuwait, Qatar, Turkey, Indonesia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Gabon and Georgia, the Foreign Ministry press office announced.

With his Iraqi counterpart, Hoshyar Zebari, Mladenov discussed the opportunities for exporting Bulgarian-produced electricity to Iraq and the Iraqi natural gas supplies for the EU-sponsored Nabucco gas transit pipeline.

Maldenov invited a delegation led by Iraq's Minister of Energy and Oil Hussein Al-Shahristani to visit Bulgaria in order to inspect in details the offer for electricity exports.

Mladenov's meeting with the Foreign Minister of Egypt Ahmed Aboul Gheit focused on the peace talks between Israel and Palestine. Aboul Gheit will be visiting Sofia on November 11, 2010, for more detailed talks, while at the beginning of 2011, Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov is scheduled to visit Egypt and to sign a number of bilateral agreements on economy, culture, science, and education.

Bulgaria's Foreign Minister also met in New York with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Amr Moussa.

"In continuation of our policy of creating new partnerships and economic opportunities for Bulgaria, Nikolay Mladenov met with his counterparts with Indonesia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Gabon, Georgia, among others," stated the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.

In early October Mladenov is scheduled to meet with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
