Bulgaria will not compromise with the quality of the Lyulin highway, the head of the Road Infrastructure Agency said Tuesday.

""I believe that the delay in the construction of Lyulin highway is not more than one month and that in good weather, the trace could be finished by the end of the year, so that it could be used. The highway has to be completely finished by May 15 and we will not compromise with the quality," Bozhidar Yotov said.

In an interview for the Bulgarian private TV channel bTV, the head of the Road Infrastructure Agency also said that Bulgaria has so far absorbed BGN 121 M under a program for rehabilitation of second and third class roads.

"The program offers a total of BGN 502 M and is divided in several stages. We passed the first stage, which was 26 procedures. We have 13 lots for construction and 13 lots for supervision. The roads have been selected according to their regional importance," Yotov said.

He added that Bulgaria was ready to rehabilitate about 363 km of roads under the program.

Yotov also explained that the developed countries that have a serious financial resource are constructing solid highways and first class roads for 10 years.

"Bulgaria, however, has roads that have not been rehabilitated for 35 years. We have to know our inheritance," he said.

The head of the Road Infrastructure Agency has stated that Maritza highway will also be fixed.

"We will have two lots for it by the end of the year. We will also start working on two lots of the Struma highway, for which we will also have a project for a third lot," he said.
