Employers in Bulgaria will continue paying three days of sick leave to workers in the social services budget previewed for 2011.

Minister of Social Policy Totyu Mladenov announced Monday that employers will continue to pay sick leave amounting to 70% of daily wage for three days.

Up to the first half of 2010 employers paid only 100% for the first day of leave, but the Ministry introduced the change in order to curb what it saw as excessive spending.

Employers and trade unions were against the changes, but cabinet nevertheless introduced them as part of its 'anti-crisis measures'.

The measures were seen as hitting on both employees and employers and the latter proposed a stricter control on the part of the state on the issuing of sick leaves.

Monday Minister Mladenov announced that this anti-crisis measure will continue to be active throughout 2011.

Earlier, the Ministry had proposed an even more controversial measure which previewed not paying the third day of sick leave.
