Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has started a week-long visit to the USA by opening the academic year in the two Bulgarian schools in New York City.

"The Bulgarian government has provided all funds necessary for the Bulgarian schools abroad despite the financial and economic crisis. Thank you for preserving your Bulgarian heritage and for staying in touch with your routes," Borisov told the students, parents, and guests who attended the school year start ceremony at the two schools "Hristo Botev" and "Gergana" at Bulgaria's Consulate in New York.

The week-long visit of the Bulgarian Prime Minister to the USA features a busy schedule.

On Sunday, he is also meeting with Joseph Deiss, chair of the 65th session of the UN General Assembly and former president of Switzerland.

Borisov will be received by the Secretary-General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon, and will take part in the 65th UN GA session and the summit on the Millenium Development Goals ten years after their adoption and five years before the deadline for their completion.

He will meet with the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China Wen Jiabao, as well as the state leaders of several Balkan countries.

Borisov is also scheduled to meet with representatives of Jewish organizations in America, and will open an exhibit at the Bulgarian Consulate in New York entitled "The Power of Civil Society – the Fate of Jews in Bulgaria."

The PM is accompanied by Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov.
