No bomb was discovered by French police after tourists were evacuated from the Eiffel Tower after a bomb treat received 9 pm local time Tuesday.

Police forces had to empty the Paris landmark and to evacuate some 2,500 tourists.

Sections of the Paris metro were also blocked, after the central station Gare de Saint-Michel received a bomb threat around 10 pm. No device was discovered there either.

World media report that the threats were received just some hours after the French Senate gave a final approval to the wear of the traditional full veil worn by some Muslim women. The bill has already been approved by the Chamber of Representatives.

The threats come just some days after a senior French security officer commented that the country is currently threatened by attacks "more than ever."

The bomb threats also come in the context of the controversy around the legality of the expulsion of Roma to their home countries, which French authorities motivate with security issues.
