The US pastor from Florida, Terry Jones, has suspended his Koran-burning initiative.

Jones, who is a pastor from a very little evangelical church in Gainesville, Florida, had first claimed he canceled his initiative which aimed at marking the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

He claimed that he was promised that the Islam culture center, which is planned to be built in New York close to Ground Zero would be moved. Ground Zero is the site of the World Trade Center, which was destroyed in the 2001 terrorist attacks.

However, later Jones claimed that he might revise his position on the cancellation of the Koran-burning because he found out he was lied to and the Islam culture center would not be moved.

"We might have to revise our position," Jones said.

However, on Friday he finally stated that his initiative has been suspended.

"As of right now, we are not canceling the event, but we are suspending it," Jones said, as reported by the Guardian.

The pastor's plan to burn copies of the Muslims holy book Koran has caused an international outrage and has been condemned by US and European authorities.

US President Barack Obama has warned that such an act would provoke violence in Pakistan and Afghanistan and would endanger the lives of the US soldiers.
