Bulgaria's National Statistics Institute (NSI) is revising data from the last 15 years in order to align its methodology with Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU.

The move has been expected for over a year and experts, cited by the Bulgarian daily "Dnevnik," say the new numbers would not be drastically different from what has been published before.

The difference is lower than 1% with recession years (1996, 1997 and 2009) showing less shrinking of the economy while in years of growth (with the exception of 1999 when there has been a denomination) the correction is positive.

There are larger differences in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), however still not significant. For example with revised data, in 2009 GDP went down by 4.95% instead of the previous 5.03%.

The old charts were replaced with new ones but the latter can still be downloaded for comparison.

The NSI press center informs the revision is ongoing and the publishing of the new quarterly numbers is forthcoming. Currently only yearly data has been revised.
