EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Catherine Ashton has visited the Bulgarian pavilion at the Shanghai Expo.

“To the beautiful Bulgaria – a wonderful country, a member of the EU and an inspiration for the future,” wrote Ashton in the book for honorary guests at the Bulgarian pavilion after seeing it, as cited by the press center of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.

The EU High Representative paid special attention to the copies of the golden treasures from Ancient Thrace exhibited at the Bulgarian pavilion of the Shanghai Expo.

Baroness Ashton is also quoted as saying that she will be visiting Bulgaria in the weeks to come, and that she had “warm memories” from her first visit to the country 2 years ago.

The Bulgarian pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai has an area of 324 sq.m. and is situated in Zone C of the European pavilion. Its design combines radically modern elements with ideas from historic Lyuto's house in the Bulgarian town of Koprivshtica in a bid to relate the rich cultural history of the country. The theme of the Bulgarian participation at the Expo is “A City of Shared Heritage”.

EU High Representative/Commission Vice-President Catherine Ashton travels to China this week (August 30-September 4) to attend the first ever EU-China High Level "Partnership" Dialogue - a key staging post ahead of the upcoming Gymnich informal Foreign Ministers meeting and summit of EU leaders where China will take centre stage as part of a wider discussion on strategic partnerships.
