The reserve of Bulgaria’s National Health Insurance Fund will not be unlocked, the Chair of the Parliamentary Health Committee has announced.

“I cannot say whether the reserve of the fund will be unlocked. Such decision has not been made,” the fund’s Chair, Desislava Atanasova, said Saturday.

She has stated that the measures, adopted last year under the Health Insurance Act, have not been effective and that the need for better collectiveness was still on the agenda.

Atanasov added that the Committee will begin working on amendments to the Act as early as next week.

“We will consider measures for increasing the collectiveness, the insurance model and the way of financing – whether the clinical pathways will stay or there will be a transfer to diagnostic related groups,” she said.

From Monday the members of the Parliamentary Health Committee will begin working on priority bills and on the problems of the hospitals.

Other subjects of amendments will be the acts on health, medicines and surrogate motherhood. According to the chair of the committee, the project for electronic health card “might be realized up to a point” by the end of the year.
