The Bulgarian Revenue Agency (NRA) has discovered two new cases of large-scale tax evasion at restaurants on the country’s Black Sea coast, the Agency reports.

The concealed revenues at a restaurant in the southern beach town of Primorsko amounted to over BGN 0.5 M. In addition to tax evasion, the owner will face prosecutor’s charges for disorderly conduct because he resisted the probe. The company will undergo a full audit.

Meanwhile, in the resort town of Obzor, revenue agents found one restaurant with two cash registers and one of them had been tempered with – set back to zero every 10 days. The register has been confiscated. The real revenues were established at BGN 20 000 in just 10 days while the owner declared in 2009 annual income of BGN 40 000 for the entire year.

The NRA director, Krasimir Stefanov, said his employees encounter outrageous cases of tax evasion daily and the owners become more and more aggressive, adding such behavior would not be tolerated and vowing to continue probes through the summer season.
