The Bulgarian Drug Agency has warned customers to be careful because a check has established that some pharmacies are selling drugs past their expiration dates.

“We closed down pharmacies in the Bulgarian Black Sea resort Golden Sands because they did not have work permits,” said the head of the Agency, Aleksandar Yankov, in an itnerview for the Bulgarian Darik Radio on Monday.

According to him, pharmacists did not keep medicines properly since there were no ventilation system in 30% of the inspected pharmacies.

The check has established that 40% of the violations were for selling medicines without a provided prescription.

Yankov has explained that the checks on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast will continue until the end of September because they have found out that violators have been selling drugs in the lobbies of hotels there.

He has stated that some changes were considered, according to which the work permits for pharmacies would be issued by the Bulgarian Drug Agency, instead of the Health Ministry.
