The defense of Lazar Kolev, who was charged with murdering the Belneyski Sisters, has demanded a new DNA expertise.

Kolev's lawyer, Marin Markovski, has reasoned his request with the statement that the strength of the defense comes from the analysis of the facts.

Sisters Rositsa (18) and Kristina (15) Belneyska went missing in January 2006, after leaving a disco bar in the Bulgarian town of Pazardzhik. The sisters were found dead at the beginning of February near the town of Peshtera.

The case against the only suspect, Kolev, has been going on for two years and more than 100 DNA tests have been made so far.

“The statements by the Prosecutor's Office are explicit, but there are no proofs for his guilt,” the lawyer Markovski said.

On August 20, the Pazardzhik District Court decided to leave in jail Kolev. However, the defense has announced it will appeal the ruling on August 26 in the Plovdiv Appellate Court.

The period for the investigation against Kolev was prolonged by three months, as requested by the Prosecutor's Office.
