Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, has been accused of rape and molestation by Swedish authorities and there is an arrest warrant for him, BBC reports Saturday.

The media cites Karin Rosander, Sweden's Prosecutors' Office spokesperson, saying the warrant was issued Friday. Swedish police have been unsuccessful so far in their efforts to reach Assange.

Rosander confirmed there were two separate charges, one of rape and the other of molestation, but gave no other details except they related to alleged incidents that took place in Sweden. Media reports say Assange was in Sweden last week while the allegations were first reported in the Swedish newspaper Expressen.

Wikileaks posted a message on Twitter, attributed to Assange, saying the charges were "without basis" and the appearance of the allegations "at this moment is deeply disturbing".

Last month, Wikileaks published more than 75,000 secret US military documents on the war in Afghanistan.

US authorities criticized the leak, saying it could put the lives of coalition soldiers and Afghans, especially informers, at risk.

Assange has recently announced Wikileaks plans to release a further 15,000 documents in the coming weeks.
