The Bulgarian police launched early Saturday morning their latest special police operation codenamed “The Twerps,” Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, reported.

According to Tsvetanov, the operation resulted in the arrest of Dimitar Komarov, 24, AKA Kiflata (The Bun), who is a high-profile underworld figure.

The Minister further explained the police targeted an organized crime group dealing with armed robberies and theft.

Kiflata had taken part in the August 18 robbery of a jewelry store in Sofia during which gunshots were fired. The shop was attacked by masked gunmen in broad daylight.

The detainee entered the crime world when he was 15 and now has a long rap sheet for grand theft auto, disorderly conduct, beatings and robberies. He received a suspended sentence and was on probation in 2008, Tsvetanov explained, adding there is material and witness evidence of Kiflata’s involvement in the jewelry store attack.

A large quantity of gold jewelry had been confiscated by the police during the operation. The probe continues. The police are one the lookout for 2 of Komarov's accomplices, and their arrest are imminent, according to the police.
