The Czech-owned power utility CEZ, servicing western Bulgaria, has announced that it will provide BGN 240 000 for renovation of the electricity distribution network in the town of Samokov.
The company is planning to replace 4 km cables of 20 kV of the substation Samokov by the end of September.
“The quality and safety of the power supply in Samokov will improve significantly thanks to our investments in the network,” said Ales Damm, Chief Operational Officer of CEZ Bulgaria.
He has explained that almost 3 km cables will be replaced and that after the project is done, there will be an improvement in the power supply of 38 power stations that are supplying 121 industrial and 7020 residential consumers.
CEZ has announced that the replacement is needed because the current cables have been installed 30 years ago.
The renovation will continue for about 40 days during which power outages might occur, but only for operating switches. The power utility has stated that consumers will be informed about them beforehand.
The project is part of the company's investment plan amounting to an annual average of BGN 71 M, approved by the State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (DKEVR).
This year's planned investments in renovation of the network in Samokov will cost BGN 2,215 M, making the total amount of renovations for 2009 and 2010 BGN 3,654 M.
This year CEZ will invest BGN 5,840 M for updating the electricity distribution network around Sofia. In this way, the total amount of investments in the region will reach BGN 10,434 M.
For the period 2005-2009, the Czech-owned power utility has invested more than BGN 370 M for improvements in the network in western Bulgaria.
