English Premiership club Blackburn Rovers is close to signing a young hope of the Bulgarian national football team, Ivelin Popov.

The 22-year-old Popov plays for the current Bulgarian champion Litex Lovech. The news that he agreed to the terms offered to him by Blackburn came a day after he arrived to Blackburn for trials.

However, Blackburn Rovers Chairman John Williams has denied reports Bulgarian international Ivelin Popov has already agreed a deal with the club.

According to the local paper Lancashire Telegraph, the Bulgarian can play as a support striker or a right winger for Rovers.

"He is one of a number of strikers currently under consideration. We have not made an offer to his club," Williams said

Popov has a total of 3 goals out of 15 matches for the Bulgarian national football team, and a total of 32 goals in 101 matches in the Bulgarian football championship. In 2009-2010, he recorded a “triple” with Litex who won the championship, the national cup and the Bulgarian supercup.

Reports in the Bulgarian media said precise terms of Popov’s contract with Blackburn Rovers have not been disclosed but the young striker will be sold for GBP 2.5 M.
