Bulgaria’s Health Minister, Anna Maria Borisova, ordered Wednesday an immediate full-scale check of electric installations in all hospitals in the country.

The move comes in the aftermath of news that an explosion caused by an electrical fault in the air conditioning system at the Giulesti maternity ward in Bucharest killed 4 newborn babies and seriously injured another 8.

The hospitals managers are required to organize ASAP a check of the electric system, which must be very thorough in particularly in maternity and intensive care units over difficult evacuation in case of an incident.

The regional offices of the Health Ministry are in charge of monitoring and controlling the safety measures.
