The port in the Bulgarian Black Sea city of Burgas is boasting a profit of nearly BGN 1 M for the first seven months of 2010, the company informs Monday.

In comparison, the port had losses of nearly BGN 2 M for the same period of 2009.

The good results are explained with the increased efficiency of the activities at the port and a series of measures undertaken by the new management.

The port registers a 223 000 tons increase of the load turnover on annual basis. Due to the new approach to finances, assets and workers, to an active policy for attracting new cargo and customers, the signing of new contracts, and lowering expenses, it is expected that by the end of 2010, the port will process over 30 000 tons of fuels, 20 sets of wind generators, 70 000 tons of raw sugar in imports and 500 000 tons of grain and 20 000 tons of lumber in exports.

The average profit is BGN 0.83 per ton per employee compared with a loss of BGN 1.44 per ton per employee for 2009.
