Unemployment in Bulgaria Down for 5th Consecutive Month

The unemployment in Bulgaria has dropped down for a fifth consecutive month and has reached 9,23%, the State Employment Agency has announced.

In comparison to June 2010, the unemployment has decreased by 0,03%. In July, 341 999 people registered at employment agencies, which was 1010 people less than the month before.

According to the agency's data, the regions with a lower than the average for the country level of unemployment increased from 7 to 11 in the past five months.

In July, the capital Sofia held the first place for lowest unemployment rate – 3,53%. The city of Burgas ranked second with 5,38%, followed by Gabrovo, with 6,39%.

The rest of the cities with lower than the average for the country unemployment rate were: Varna – 6,53%, Stara Zagora – 7,33%, Plovdiv – 8,11%, Dobrich – 8,71%, Pernik – 8,77%, Veliko Tarnovo – 8,92%, Haskovo – 9%, and Ruse – 9,07%.

In 17 regions in Bulgaria, the unemployment rate was higher than the average for the country. The city of Smolyan ranked first with 16,46%, followed by Targovishte – 15,83% and Montana – 15,47%.

In July, 39 626 people registered in employment bureaus, mostly in the sectors “Services” (55,4%) and “Industry” (19%).

42 793 people left the employment bureaus in July.

In July, there were 18 235 free job positions, which is 5914 more than the number in June. About 13 people were competing for one position, in comparison to the previous month, when the number was 16.
