A number of disabled Bulgarians dressed in prison clothes gave a press conference before the State Social Agency in protest against the institution's failure to guarantee their social inclusion.

The press conference was entitled “The Bulgarian Parody of Social Inclusion in the European Year for Fighting Social Isolation.”

With the prison clothes they wore, the people with disabilities sought to illustrate their situation of social exclusion.

They especially focused on demanding an expansion of the government program for providing so called personal assistants to each disabled person.

The Social Agency has replied to their demands by saying that the number of those employed as personal assistants will be increased from 4 000 to 9 000.

This will cost about BGN 35 M over the next two years. The money has been procured from the state budget and EU operational programs.
